Acorn Creek Farm is a family-run farm nestled in the rolling terrain of the driftless region, working toward organic certification in 2008. We grow a broad range of produce for CSA members and the Tomah Farmer's Market (Saturday mornings). Whether it is carrots or cauliflower, broccoli or beets, strawberries or salad mix, we emphasize freshness - if you want it any fresher, you'll have to grow it yourself. Our CSA memberships run for 20 weeks from June into October. Naturally grown and delivered fresh from our farm, each share box contains 8-14 different items, with recipes and a newsletter. Every summer we invite the public to our annual First Harvest Festival. Join us on August 4, 2007, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., to enjoy live music, shop for locally made crafts, and talk about (and enjoy) great food. It's a cinch to find us: Hertz Avenue is only a couple of miles south of I-90 at Tomah (Exit 141).

The organic dairy herd of 125 cows was added in 2003 with the bottling facility being added in 2005. Being committed to organics and getting a quality product to consumers, we bottle non-homogenized, low temp vat pasteurized creamline milk and make premium quality ice cream and artisanal, blue, cheddar and colby cheeses. By feeding the soil properly and allowing crops to feed on enriched soil, our animals become servants; pass on essential nutrients to consumers. Our glass bottled milk, premium quality ice cream and cheeses bring back the taste of times gone by. We do not pool our milk giving us total control of the product from start to finish. Hay River Pumpkin Seed Oil - rich, nutty and delicious. This beautiful, dark-red, gourmet oil is wonderful for making salad dressings. Drizzle some over rice, popcorn, squash soups, or use as a flavorful dip for bread. Although common in Austrian cuisine, oil from the seeds of our Native American pumpkins has been unknown, until now - the first pumpkin seed oil produced in the U.S. says, "Move over olive oil!" This true artisan product is sustainably and lovingly produced on small family farms along the Hay River in pristine Northwestern Wisconsin. The pumpkin seeds are harvested by hand, lightly roasted, then cold-pressed to preserve flavor and valuable nutrients. Containing an excellent ratio of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, this flavorful and nutritious oil supports glowing skin, hair and many other health benefits. The most important benefit of all is great taste, enjoy! Recipes, pumpkin lore and more on the website. Please no farm visits.

Philadelphia Community Farm began in 1990 as one of the first Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms in the Midwest. 2007 is our 18th season. The farm unites urban and rural people in a common effort to preserve a rural environment, regenerate field and forest, and improve water and food quality.
We practice Biodynamic and organic principles to nurture the farm as a whole organism with a regenerating circle of soil, plant, animal and human life. Fertility comes from our own composted cow, llama, sheep and chicken manure. Animals include Jersey and Dexter cows for hand milking, twenty sheep, three llamas, and 20-25 chickens. 400 acres on the St. Croix, canoes and a log retreat house are available for families and groups.
We invite you to join with 100 member families and 1000 annual visiting students. Together, we are creating an environmentally sound, genetically diverse, and culturally rich, local food system.

We have started a small orchard with eight varieties of apples, five types of pears and a vineyard consisting of nine varieties of table, jelly/jam and wine grapes. These are the most hearty varieties for our sand loam soils and these compliment our grain crop acreages. We have found that growing fruit in Wisconsin requires a good deal of hands-on labor, patience and perseverance for the potential of bringing in a healthy and successful crop. We find the result, at the end of six to eight months can be quite rewarding. Throughout the growing season we treat our plants using only natural organics, soaps and ceramic powders to protect our crops from the various molds, scabs, blights and insects. The result are yields of fresh, excellent tasting and healthful produce for our customers. Our varieties of apples, pears and grapes, depending on climate conditions, ripen from late August until mid-October. So we should have a different variety that is just perfect for customers needs throughout these times. We have sold through local grocery stores but find that sales off the farm are most rewarding as we enjoy meeting our customers and can assure fresh, "just picked" produce. In season, our trees yield yellow and red apples, our vines produce white, red, and dark blue grapes and we believe the combination of soils and pear trees produce the best pears in western Wisconsin.
